If your teeth are crooked, stained, or have gaps, dental veneers can help conceal these imperfections to give you a beautiful, flawless smile. These tooth-colored restorations can cover your teeth to renovate their appearance and establish the smile of your dreams. At Robichaux Family Dentistry in Los Angeles, we provide customized dental veneers to hide your smile defects and restore their look cosmetically.
What Are Veneers?
Veneers are transparent, custom-made tooth-colored pieces bonded to impaired teeth' front surfaces. They are considered a cosmetic treatment and imitate the appearance of natural teeth while improving their color, shape, size, or length. Dental veneers can also be used instead of crowns, teeth whitening, or other treatments based on your existing teeth' condition.
Who Can Benefit From Dental Veneers?
We offer dental veneers to correct various issues with teeth and help patients achieve beautiful natural smiles. This can include:
- Covering up teeth stains or discoloration
- Straightening a crooked smile
- Closing gaps between teeth
- Resizing or reshaping teeth
Types of Dental Veneers
Dental veneers are composed of either porcelain or composite materials. The type of dental veneer that will be best for you depends on your budget, desired results, and lifestyle. Both porcelain and composite veneers can offer a new, improved smile without the need for an invasive procedure.
Porcelain veneers are almost indistinguishable in your mouth, imitating your natural teeth. They are known for their resistance to stains and durability and can last ten to fifteen years with proper care and regular dental examinations.
However, porcelain restorations cost significantly more than composites as they are fabricated in a dental lab. In just one office visit, composite veneers can be cemented directly to the tooth. Porcelain veneers cannot be repaired, if they chip or break, they must be replaced. In comparison, the composite veneers cost less and can be fixed in case of damage.
Dental Veneers Procedure
During your consultation, Dr. Jacob Robichaux will assess if your teeth are a suitable size to support veneers and are free from chronic problems such as tooth decay or gum disease that can affect the success of the treatment.
To place the veneers, we will remove a small layer of enamel from the front surface of the teeth to make room for your new restoration. The surface will be etched to help the veneers bond more easily and uniformly. We will then capture an impression of your smile to fabricate your customized restoration.
Once your veneers are ready, we will check that they are the right size and make the necessary adjustments before fixing them to your teeth using dental cement.
